Urban Ghost sightings...Michael Talbot http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=51
Needless to say, I was quite impressed with his latest round of shots.

Michael is one of those street shooters who just "gets it". He understands street photography and is never in fear of pushing the limits with his images and/or subject matter.

I hope you can take a closer look at his work, and discover more about the Urban Ghost.

Urban Ghost features Michael's street photography and photojournalism. You can browse the archives, or keep up to date with his latest photos in the blog section. Visit www.urbanghost.com

...I guess this will teach me not to stay away from his site for too long again.

Hope all is well, Michael.

PESTE: An interview with the artist http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=50
GS: So what is your tag? When and how did you come up with it?

Peste: I tag Peste and Pester, I did if for quite some time when I was younger but was outta the mix for a while. I just picked it back up since moving downtown (Baltimore).

GS: Are those your supplies in the last photo?

Peste: Yes, those are my cans, or my little stash of heaven...lol.

GS: Where can I find your work? Where do you prefer to tag?

Peste: I personally prefer to tag pretty much anything but personal proerty. Corporate buildings, warehouses and government property including bridges, signs, etc are all fair game. Of course, my personal favorite place to write is home-sweet-home, B'more.

GS: What or who is Peste all about? What's your general take on graffiti as an art form?

Peste: I really look at the art form as a culmination of creative ideas weather that be in a quick hand style, a bomb, fill-in piece or a full on production. Each writer expresses themselves in a different manner and my personal opinion as a true writer is in it for personal satisfaction more then getting up all the time.

A constant journey for the smoothest style and best flow. I just hate to see people with sloppiness just getting up. I believe that the true street artists are the ones that practice all the time. These are the same artists that have a million ideas but none are good enough and that respect the wall and themselves enough to put that little extra effort “Style” behind everything they do.

GS: From where do you draw your inspiration?

Peste: We have so many good writers in town (Baltimore) there's no need to go anywhere else for inspiration!

Mophie iPhone Battery ... it's here! http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=44 Let's just say that the Mophie Juice Pack has clearly passed the test! Fully charged it up early on Saturday morning. Spent the entire day traversing the streets of lower Manhattan, shooting photographs the whole day long.

When I arrived back at the hotel at 6:00 pm, there was still a fully charged iPhone in the cradle.

If you need extra juice...get it at www.mophie.com!

-----

As an iPhone photographer, you can imagine my frustrations at times with the very limited life of the iPhone's internal battery. My only option, thus far, has been to carry my wall-outlet charger with me, and hope that the folks at Starbucks don't mind me borrowing a little juice now and then.

Then recently, I heard about the Mophie iPhone battery from mStation. I placed an order on friday, and it arrived today (Monday). Right out of the box, I was impressed as it was 3/4 fully charged.

It feels good in the hand, and it really doesn't add that much bulk. I've already had 2 people today ask me where they could get one. I wonder if Mophie offers commissioned sales...

Look for my next posting on the performance of my Mophie.

I saw her passing http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=43
And sometimes, a person passes you by that catches your eye but for just a second. And you have but just a second to capture what you see.

As is the case with this woman who passed me by on the street yesterday. She was full of style and grace.

Sometimes I wonder where they are going, or from where they have come.

Nate Tia on People http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=42
Recently we discussed shooting people on the street. Nate, at first told me he didn't have the "boldness" to walk up to to a complete stranger and take the shot.

We exchanged ideas and techniques of shooting discretely with the iPhone, and how you can really get in close, without the subject even knowing at times.

Later he sent me this photograph, entitled "Funky Man."

I think Mr. Tia has proven himself "bold" with these shots. I hope to see more people in the near future from Nate.

Have you ever been... http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=40
Nearly every corner, every wall, every nook and cranny is covered or tagged with some type of art.

This particular paste-up was spotted on the East side, maybe around 15th street, if my memory recalls correctly.

I couldn't help but stop and marvel at the detail, the craft and the creativity of the art...and the artist.

It's the closest one can get to Electric Ladyland in NYC.

Oh, these people! http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=39
Take your average busy city street, thousands of shoulders rubbing by one another. Different walks of life around every corner.

Sometimes, I don't even realize the unique expressions they wear until I view the shots at the end of the day.

Oh, these people...I only wish there were more of them!

Sweating the small stuff! http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=38
Swing by your local Radio Shack and pick up their 3-step pocket magnifier for $8.95 and you will be pleasantly suprised with the outcome.

Here are a few quick shots of some vintage cameras I had around the house.

Macro photography with the iPhone?

...start sweating the small stuff!

kobayashi ... you da' man! http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=37
i went for the traditional dog with cheese fries, while my partner-in-crime opted for the "pepper and onion" version. (guess she thought it would be a little "healthier"?)

needless to say, i don't see how Kobayashi manages to jam more than 50 of those things down his throat in less than 12 minutes. one was quite enough for both of us.

next time though, i'm going for the "bacon and cheese" hot dog. only 1300 calories, according to their menu board.

chalkin' up with Ellis G. http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=36
We spent a day in Brooklyn, traversing Smith Street, Court Street, Bergen, Atlantic and a few others.

Along the way, I encountered a recent piece by Ellis G., an incredible street chalk artist.

I hope to run into more of his works in my journeys.

Rain, rain, go away. Or, stay. http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=35
Me, it's just the opposite. Rainy days can present some of the most interesting pictures in your collection. The shine of the water on the city street can create reflections that you just can't find anywhere else.

And shooting with an iPhone makes it that much easier. Ahhh, the many uses of a ziplock bag...

831 photos to post... http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=33
The iPhone did me well on this trip. I only had to restore once...on the first day. Sometimes, the camera function gets whack and the images don't save. A quick restore will fix that every time.

Anyway, I ended up with 831 images. Needless to say, I will have many upcoming nights of reviewing and posting to the site. Please check back soon!

Later than night, as I was watching television, I heard The Weather Channel commentator mention her name...and there it was, her photo, live on TV.

Looks like this iPhone photography thing is really taking off.

Hopefully there'll be a pot o' gold at the end.

Great capture, Gara!

Black and White http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=24
I use one of two methods: Photoshop® or Picnik™.

Some folks have commented that I need to Jailbreak my phone and install either Snapture or PhotoPro. Well, I hate to say this but ... been there, dun that.

Don't get me wrong, these ARE neat little programs for the iPhone.

But there is one thing that many people don't realize. When using these programs, you are running a heavier app than that of the camera itself, which will result in the battery dying faster than you like.

So, Jailbreakin' ain't the issue here, it's the battery. If your out shooting all day with the iPhone, you're going to want to conserve the battery all you can.

A dose of NYC and Mr. Warhol http://www.justwhatisee.com/blog/index.php?entry=22
On our last visit, and on almost every visit, we stopped in Union Square. There's always a high dose of energy at the market and in the park. Not to mentioned the many fantastic photographers and artists.

And although we've never been inside the infamous "Coffee Shop", I must have hundreds of photos of the sign and building.

But what's more intriguing to me, actually, is who used to dwell on the sixth floor of 33 Union Square West.
